Blue Star Fern

English name:

Blue Star Fern

Latin name:

Phlebodium Aureum

About me:

My crinkly leaves change depending on how they catch the light, and can appear blue or green. This creates depth and movement, ensuring I'm one of the most popular ferns around.

Useful to know:

Origin

I come from the tropical Rainforests of South America.

Height/Growth

I can grow to as high as 1 meter. Care for me well, and I will grow quickly.

Light

I don't need too much light so I can be kept in offices and bedrooms.

Water

Keep my soil a little moist but please don't down me. I like to be watered from my sides, rather than directly onto my leaves.

Temperature

I like to be between 16 and 24 degrees, so I should be fine in most households, but keep me away from draughts.

Feeding

I'm not very hungry but I'd like some liquid fertiliser during the growing season.

Grooming

Repot only when I've totally outgrown my pot as I prefer to be rootbound.

Care

Make sure I am not left sitting in water.

Toxicity

Good news: I am pet friendly!

Fact

I am an epiphyte which means that I can grow on trees as well as in soil.
