English name:Elephant Ear 'Lauterbachiana'
Latin name:Alocasia Lauterbachiana
About me:My upright, spear-like scallop-edged leaves with dark red undersides are my defining feature.
Useful to know:
I am originally from Indonesia and New Guinea.
I can grow up to 4m tall in the wild.
I like a position with lots of indirect sunlight.
Water me frequently as I like to be moist, but don't let me sit in water: leave it about fifteen minutes between watering and returning me to the pot.
I like to be kept warm, ideally between 18 and 22°C.
Give me a slow release fertiliser once a month during the growing season.
I need little grooming, feel free to pick off any yellowing leaves at the bottom.
I don't like the cold, so keep me away from droughts. If you notice brown edges on my leaves, it's probably lack of water or humidity.
I'm toxic if you eat me, so keep me away from kids and pets.
This vintage-looking plant is tough to have conquered the living room in the 1950's.
