The Calathea Network is one of our newer Prayer Plants, known for the distinctive cross-hatch pattern on its leaves.
The Network's leaves have delicately scalloped edges, coloured a rich green with thin bright yellow lines. These impressively neat geometric patterns look look a little like a mosaic or stained glass, hence the botanical name, Calathea musaica.
Generally considered easy to grow, the Calathea musaica is tough and resilient, so if you're new to the plant world or have a busy lifestyle this could be your match! However, Calatheas can react badly to sudden drops in temperature and low humidity so don't keep it near a radiator or window.
How to care for your Calathea Network:
Originating from the tropical regions of Brazil, these plants do best in rooms with a consistent stable temperature (ideally above 15°C) and bright indirect light conditions. A spot in front of an east, west, or north window is ideal but these plants can grow in partial shade as well. They love humidity so will do well in bathrooms or kitchens! Keep the soil moist but never sitting in water!
Calatheas can be sensitive to the quality of tap water. For best results use distilled water, rainwater or allow tap water to sit out overnight before using it.
