Extra Large Chinese Money Plant

Pilea peperomioides

Regular price £65.00 £0.00

A long-time favourite among houseplant owners, no collection is complete without a money plant. This one hails from East Asia, but it is not so distantly related from the nettles which grow wild in Britain.

Money Plants are very easy to look after, just make sure you keep it OUT of direct sunlight and monitor your watering.

They are also famously easy to propagate. Look out for pups and, once they've got a solid root stem and several leaves, re-pot and share with friends to bring wealth and prosperity!

This plant is famous for producing pups freely in their growing pots, which are easy to detach and re-pot yourself. When you give an offshoot plant to a friend, it's supposed to bring you good fortune - hence the name Money Plant!

Native to the Yunnan Province in China, Pilea peperomioides was first collected in 1906, but it wasn’t until 1945, when a Norwegian Missionary stumbled upon the plant, that it reached European shores. Money Plants were then spread very organically, sustained mostly by amateurs sharing their plantlets, and their popularity has steadily increased since then.

Care for Money Plants is simple: give yours medium-bright, filtered light, but never direct sunlight. Pileas will tolerate poorly lit rooms, but this may force the foliage to become oversized. It is perfectly normal for a few of the leaves to come away during the transportation process but this will not affect the plant at all.

Pets: Safe!
