Variegated Pineapple with Chestnut
The Pygmy Pineapple (Annanas comosus) has been a long-term Bloombox Club favourite and we are now thrilled to introduce its cousin: the Variegated Pineapple (Ananas comosus variegatus).
These ones generally don't have a central ornamental fruit as pronounced as the non-variegated pineapples, but they do have an intriguing pink-green colour.
Surrounding the pink fruit is a flush of variegated green and white foliage. But be warned, each proud frond is marked with little serrated spikes so you don't run your hand down them!
We've offset the kookiness of this plant with one of our more subdued pots: Chestnut has a dark terracotta base and is dipped in a soft tertiary colour.
Botanical name: Ananas comosus variegatus
