Large Money Tree
These beautiful full-size trees have plaited trunks which give way to clusters of long green leaves, gathered around a central point. They require little by way of maintenance as the trunk holds a good amount of water, so they make great plants for offices, public venues and homes, alike.
According to Chinese feng shui, the hand-like expanse of the Money Tree's leaves capture happiness and good fortune, while the water-storing trunk is said to hold treasure!
The Money Tree, also known as the Provision Tree, Saba Nut, Guiana Chestnut or French Peanut, comes from South and Central America, where it can easily grow to over 60 feet tall. Luckily, its growth is regulated by the size of its growing pot, so you won't end up with a full-size tree on your hands. The Money Tree is also very low maintenance, only requiring watering once every week and a bright environment out of direct sunlight. The plant's bright green, textured leaves can be damaged by exposure to direct sun, so it's better to err on the side of shade. The leaves also have fragile stems so can sometimes break off due to their weight, but don't worry too much, as they will soon grow back.
Because of the good fortune and prosperity associated with the plant, it is quite a common wedding present in East Asia, representing wishes of happiness and success for the newlywed couple. Some folk tales even say that an old Taiwanese farmer struggling with his harvest found a pachira aquatica in his fields one day, grew more plants from its seeds, and sold them to make his fortune (hence the name of Money Tree). Either way, this plant makes a stylish addition to the home or office, boosting wellbeing and oxygenating its environment.
