This beautiful plant is traditionally an outdoor plant, perfect for hanging baskets and containers. It grows low to the ground and throws out runners so it spreads quickly in the right conditions. You can grow it indoors too though - it trails beautifully off a shelf or hanging from a hook. Avoid direct sun and overwatering.
I'm a quick grower, perfect for indoors or out. Contrary to my name, I am not part of the strawberry family.
Latin name: Saxifraga stolonifera
Growing pot size: 14.5cm diameter, 9.5cm height. Plastic hanger can be detached.
Pets: Safe :)
Useful to know:
I am native to China, Japan and Korea
I only reach 10-15cm in height but form tight rosettes of leaves.
I like bright indirect light - an easterly window is perfect.
I like my soil to be moist but cut down on watering during winter when I am dormant.
I'll be happy in room temperatures between 15-24°C.
Fertilise me monthly with normal plant food during spring and summer but not during winter.
Remove dry leaves and feel free to cut any trails that are yellowing or drying.
I am prone to mealybugs so keep an eye for them. If you do find them, spray me with insecticidal soap at 1/2 strength.
Good news: I am pet-safe!
I am often called a Strawberry Begonia or Geranium but I am actually neither.
