The Staghorn Ferns receive their name due to their unusual upper leaves resemblense to stag's horns. Their lower drooping fronds often have an unusual disk that catches insects for nutrients.
These unique ferns make great feature plants thanks to their broad, distinctive foliage that grow upwards. Their fronds can both climb and trail once they grow long enough.
They thrive in high humidity levels which make them ideal plants for the kitchen or bathroom.

How to Care for Staghorn Fern
- With the right care, these low maintenance beauties will keep your home looking lush and vibrant. They even come with their own hanger so you can get decorating right away!
- Bright, indirect light is preferred. Protect the leaves from direct sunlight to prevent them from burning.
- Let the soil dry between waterings, let the water drain well before re-hanging it. Mist it often to maintain humidity.
- 15 to 25 ºC are perfect temperatures. Staghorn ferns can be placed outside when the temperature is within this range.
- During the growing season, feed it monthly with a water-soluble fertiliser, in the colder months, it will only need feeding once every 2 months.

Where is it from?
They are sometimes called ‘rainforest ferns’ as they are native to the tropical areas of Australia, South America, Africa, South East Asia and New Guinea.

Staghorn Ferns are epiphytic plants, in their natural environments, they grow on other plants and trees. Although your plant will be sent in a pot, once it has matured, it needs to be mounted on a board or hung in a hanging basket.

How tall does it grow? In its native environment, it can reach nearly 2 metres high and 1 metre wide. Indoors it won’t grow over 1 metre high and ½ metre wide.
Fact: I can be potted into a piece of hessian sack with a small amount of free draining soil and attached to a board for a striking wall mounted decoration. Let the water run down the board rather than the plant and allow to drip dry before putting back on the wall.

Staghorn Fern Care Guide
Light
I am from the tropics so unlike most ferns I like bright indirect light and humid conditions.
Water
Never ever leave me sitting in water and please let me soil dry between watering. I must have a well draining soil.
Temperature
I like normal room temperatures of between 16-23 degrees C. Please don't leave me in temperatures below 10 degrees C!
Feeding
You can feed me a dilute fertiliser though Spring to Autumn
Grooming
Trim shabby leaves, my disk-shaped, shield leaf will turn brown in time.
Care
The most common cause of rot and losing leaves is overwatering. If I get black spots on the guard leaves, the can spread rapidly and kill me. This is a fungus called rhizoctonia so please use a fungicide or let me dry out completely and water moderately until the spots disappear.
