Variegated Monstera Swiss Cheese Plant
No doubt you’ve heard of the Swiss Cheese Plant, one of the most popular house plants out there.
But what about this rare variant - the Variegated Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera Deliciosa Variegata)? A random genetic mutation is responsible for its beautiful, marbled leaf patterns of white, cream, yellow and light and dark green.
*Decorative pot sold separately.
Key Benefits of Variegated Monstera Plant
Similarly to the Monstera deliciosa, the variegated variety is fairly low maintenance and fast growing. It’s leaves attract dust from the air, keeping it away from you and your surfaces.
The main benefit of the Variegated Swiss Cheese Plant however is of course it's stunning leaves, providing you with an eye full of beauty whenever you glance over.
The Variegated Monstera Swiss Cheese Plant Story
Super rare, Monstera deliciosa variegata’s beautiful leaves are caused by a genetic mutation. This mutation prevents the cells from producing chlorophyll, the molecule that makes plants green and captures the sun’s energy. The result? A psychedelic swirling pattern of white, yellow and green!
A regular Swiss Cheese Plant sadly cannot be made to become variegated; the variegated ones were simply born that way! This is therefore a highly rare plant and is unlikely to be sold at your average plant shop.
As these pretty plants don’t have as much chlorophyll as their greener leafed cousins, they have more difficulty taking in the light they need. They therefore require a little more light than regular Swiss Cheese Plants. Occasionally, a Variegata can produce a series of plain, green leaves due to various factors such as decreased sunlight or stress. But give it enough light and it should be back to variegation in no time!
Is Variegated Swiss Cheese Plant The Right Plant For Me?
If you’re a real houseplant aficionado and want something special, rare and unique this is definitely the plant for you! As expected, the care requirements for the Monstera deliciosa Variegata are very similar to Monstera deliciosa. However, Variegata is a delicate soul and is more sensitive to its environment, as well as needing more light. We think it’s worth it for those beautiful leaves!
Rare and beautiful, the Variegated Swiss Cheese Plant makes a stunning centrepiece in any plant lover’s home.
