Air Purifying

My leaves can appear blue or green as the light changes!

Blue Star Ferns are epiphytes, in the wild, they grow on the side of trees, where they draw most of their nutrients from.

Phlebodium aureus grows under the dense rainforest canopy and requires little light to survive. They absorb moisture from humidity in the air, rather than through their roots alone. Perfect bathroom buddies!

This funky fern has sturdy, elongated, blue-green fronds that curl as they grow and spill out of their pot, making them wonderful hanging plants for a slightly shady corner. Their crinkly leaves change depending on how they catch the light and can appear blue or green, this creates depth and movement and makes me one of the most popular ferns around. Ours even come with their very own detachable hanger, so you can put it straight up on a hook, railing or beam.

Growing pot size:17cm plus hanging hook. We advise buying a larger decorative pot size as the lip of the hanging pot makes it slightly bigger

Overall plant height including growing pot:30-40cm

Key Benefits of the Blue Star Fern

Purifying and Balancing

Ferns in general are great air purifiers. Blue Star Fern leaves have high surface areas which are great for filtering nasties from the air. They are also brilliant humidifiers, great for your lungs!

Ferns are also awesome at soaking electromagnetic waves which help us balance our technology-filled lives.

Blue Star Fern - Phlebodium aureum 'Blue Star' Plant Care Tips

Although they are easy-to-care indoor pot plants, in their natural habitat, Blue Star Ferns are found growing on the bark of host trees in the shaded rainforests of tropical America.

They are used to mid-to-higher temperatures (12° to 26℃) and can be grown outside during the summer months as long as they are not exposed to direct sunlight for over an hour.

Indoors, it’s recommended to place them away from radiators and heaters.

Phlebodiums are hard plants and can survive for a long time providing their needs are met.

Because of their natural habitat, they prefer shady and humid conditions with mid to lower light levels and weekly watering sessions to maintain their soil moist (not wet). They will also enjoy being placed in between other plants or a pebble tray partially filled with water.

Stealy kitchens and bathrooms are their favourite rooms in a home.

Care Instructions

I don't need too much light so I can be kept in offices and bedrooms.

Keep my soil a little moist but please don't down me. I like to be watered from my sides, rather than directly onto my leaves.

Blue Star Fern like to be between 16 and 24 degrees, so I should be fine in most households, but keep me away from draughts.

I'm not very hungry but I'd like some liquid fertiliser during the growing season.

Good news: I am pet friendly!

Repot only when I've totally outgrown my pot as I prefer to be rootbound. I am one of the best plants for physical health.

Make sure I am not left sitting in water.
