This Calathea plant has long crinkle-cut leaves with deep green markings over light green, contrasting with a purple underside.
My leaves are marked in a way that makes them look painted. Because my foliage is also thinner and longer than the leaves of other calatheas, I've earned the name 'Rattlesnake'.
Working to its own internal rhythms, this Calathea responds to morning light by spreading its leaves and closes them in the evening. With additional air purifying qualities and a relatively speedy growth habit, this is one of our all-round stars!

Useful to know:
I come from the tropical Rainforests of South America.
I can grow as tall as 60cm and I am a fairly speedy grower.
I like a lot of diffused light, but direct sunlight will cause the leaves to fade and lose my precious markings. Because I grow on the canopy floor, I can tolerate shade, but I grow much better with indirect light.
I like my soil to be moist, but I am also susceptible to root rot, so don't let me sit in water. Think little and often as a watering policy.
I prefer warm to high temperatures, ideally between 18-23°C but can cope with as low as 15°C. Please keep me away from draughts!
Apply a weak dose of a nitrogen rich foliage fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
Wipe my leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust, so that I can breathe properly.
High humidity levels are a must. Stand on a wet pebble tray to improve humidity and mist frequently. Pop it in the shower from time to time to give an extra boost.
Good news: I am pet friendly!
I am really good at removing toxins and impurities from the air, so I'll help you breathe more easily.
