English name:Blue Rain Bromeliad
Latin name:Aechmea 'Blue Rain'
I am easily identified by my vibrant neon flowers. When this central bud fades, I will still have plums of glossy (but rough to touch) green foliage. You may also see little pups in my soil which can grow into new plants.
Useful to know:
I am a new hybrid, but my parents are from Brazil.
I will grow between 20 and 40cm high, with a width of about 30cm.
I prefer filtered light, as too much direct sunlight will cause discolouration to my leaves.
Give me some diluted liquid fertiliser once a month during my growing season.
I thrive in a warm and a humid atmosphere, don't let me get below 15c.
Water me through my central crown, and make sure I'm topped up at all times. Stand me on a tray of pebbles too, to keep my humidity up.
I generally stay in good condition, just snap off my flower stem once it fades.
I can last for many years with the right care.
Good news: I am pet friendly!
I might reflower if you let me dry out in the centre, and pop me in a plastic bag with an apple in it. The gas from the decomposing apple can stimulate new growth!
