The Mars Cultivar bosta a slimmer straighter spade shape to its leaf. While the central vein remains a crisp creamy white the leaf itself is speckled with shades of green and cream. The effect gives it a cosmic appearance.

Dumb Cane 'Mars' Plant Care tips

  • Allow for the top 5cm of soil to dry before watering. Typically this will be every 5 to 7 days during the Spring and Summer. Reduce the watering frequency during the Autumn to every 7 to 10 days.
  • The Dumb Cane cannot tolerate significant temperature fluctuations. Keep away from windows and doors that can cause a cold draft.
  • Provide bright indirect or filtered light to encourage growth and leaf retention. Use a well-draining, high organic matter soil mix.

Dumb Cane plants originated in the tropics of Mexico, West indies down south to Argentina.

Who is the Dumb Cane Mars?

Dumb Canes received their common name from the effect they would have on people when ingested. This highly toxic plant produces calcium oxalate crystals that cause intense inflammation of the salivary glands and digestive system.

If you were to ingest it your mouth would go numb and you would salivate more than usual causing one's speech to slur. Or to sound dumb!
