English name:
Chinese Evergreen 'Crete'Latin name:
Aglaonema 'Crete'About me:
I am a small-batch, patented Chinese Evergreen. If you see an Aglaonema at indoor plant shops, I'll probably be my more-common geen and yellow cousin. My variegated red, yellow and green colouring is what marks me out as unusual. My leaves are lush and full, but I'm also compact so I can be slotted into tight crevices, which I'll immediately brighten up.
Useful to know:
Origin
I come from the tropics of Asia and New Guinea.
Height/Growth
I'm a compact plant and a relatively slow grower but I could reach as high as 1m.
Light
I like medium to moderate light. If my leaves are dark, they can handle more light, if they're light, I'll only be able to tolerate medium light.
Water
Keep my soil lightly moist constantly but be careful not to overwater me as my delicate roots are susceptible to rot.
Temperature
Keep me away from draughts and in temperatures of between 18 and 24°C.
Feeding
Please feed me diluted fertiliser once a month during the growing season.
Grooming
Dust my leaves off occasionally and pluck off any dry leaves.
Care
Although I can last in low humidity, I'll grow better in a humid environment so keep me somewhere warm and mist my leaves with a spray bottle. You would also like to read about Chinese Evergreen Aglaonema 'First Diamond'.
Toxicity
Keep me away from pets and children as I am toxic.
Fact
I am a brand new variety of Aglaonema. As I'm patented, only growers who win me at auction are allowed to propagate me.
