Banana Plant
English name:
Banana PlantLatin name:
Musa acuminata Dwarf CavendishAbout me:
Although you're unlikely to get any fruit from me when grown indoors, my huge, beautiful, paddle-shaped leaves with burgundy or purple blotches more than make up for it!Useful to know:
Origin
I come from the Canary Islands.
Height/Growth
I can grow 2-3 metres in height!
Light
Bright, indirect light suits me best but I'm partial to a bit of direct sun too.
Water
I get thirsty quickly so water me as soon as the top level of soil is dry.
Temperature
I like it on the warmer side, so no temperatures lower than 10°C please.
Feeding
Feed me every few weeks with a balanced fertiliser during the spring and summer.
Grooming
My leaves tear easily, even naturally while unfurling so be gentle.
Care
I like humidity so keep me on a pebble tray, near other plants or mist me, to avoid my leaves getting damaged.
Toxicity
Good news: I am pet friendly!
Fact
Along with the Grand Nain variety, my Cavendish banana fruit is the most internationally traded banana since the 1950s.
